OPW: On the rise

Greetings! I just wanted to let you know that I am working on comics again. YAY!!!  This time however, I will not be doing it alone. A few months back I handed over all of my Oh, Perilous World materials to one“Spaghetti Kiss” Michael Bracco who has had a successful run with Novo and now Adam Wreck to help me get organized. There were elements that I was missing from my stories that we went over and things are starting to look really good for the future of OPW. We have been doing character redesigns and streamlining the plot so the pacing is perfect. One drastic change you can expect in the future though will be the presentation. Oh, Perilous World will not be continuing as a webcomic. We have an entire book mapped out with roughly 100 pages of story to tell. Some elements have been removed and reserved for future exploration and all for very good reason. Don’t worry though because with all of the wonderful preservation we are working through there will be plenty Skull Baby to go around. Right now I am beginning my work on chapter one as we start to develop the rest of book one. It will be in black and white and hopefully available sometime around the fall of 2012. Hopefully. Haha. Don’t quote me on that one. In the meantime I will be going back to updating this site regularly very, very soon with character sketches and comic pages as well. There will also be a preview book to read between now and the final product. I am excited to begin this story again with an approach like never before. Thanks for sticking around and I look forward to seeing you with brand new content soon.

Character Bio: Witch Beulah

baba

Who does not love a good witch? Or a bad witch for that matter. Ok, I will not start talking Wizard of Oz here. What I would like to talk about though is one of the main characters from our story. Witch Beulah (pictured above) comes from the old typical archetype but takes new life. She is plagued by a hunger for children but pushed forth to ascend into something better. Living in a hut with chicken legs, she practices magic and is rooted in the dark arts like most ancient hags from fable. If you look at her face though it would appear there is peace in a cursed life. Not all darkness is void of hope and damned. You can bet with certainty that curvy body will loose its figure too. Without a doubt. With eyes that see the unimaginable and hands that wield incredible forces and intent beyond our own, she is still very human. A victim of a forsaken marriage, she fights her demons. One specific demon even gave her a child of her own. What might is conjured for a future sewn by the thread of misfortune?  We shall see.

Page One: Script and Art

This is the first time I am working off of an honest script. I draw big. Sometimes too big for these panels. I managed to fit everything though after 5 attempts on this page. Rearranging panels helped too. Most of my trouble came from panel one. Since the witch’s hut is so tall, I could not fit it inside the wide plans for the panel. Looking at the legs of the hut, they appear to be mechanical in nature. I always add more detail as I ink. You will not see final detail in the pencil outlines. This is more like the soul of the page. In the final to come, the legs will be made out of uprooted plumbing mixed with dirt and roots.

Beastie Design

This beastie is an evolved design originating from earlier efforts of the story (click here.) Currently standing over three stories tall this nasty cyclops is ready to take on anything.

Aquabats Assemble!

Needless to say, I have been listening to a lot of Aquabats lately while at the same time gearing up for the Avengers movie.

The mash up started because I was thinking about designs with the letter A in it. This was a fun little exercise for the photoshop  memory. It has been a while since I have used the program.
